From classroom frustration
to a platform for schools
In 2022, our founder - a former secondary school teacher - visited a private school in Lagos to help a friend.
He found the principal surrounded by stacks of handwritten registers, a WhatsApp group for results, and an Excel sheet for fees that had not been updated in three months.
“I realised this was not one school's problem,” he said. “This was how most schools in Nigeria were running. The tools that existed were either too expensive, too complex, or made for Western schools - they did not understand our context at all.”
He spent six months building the first version of Cakale EDU - a simple, fast, mobile-first platform that a school admin could learn in 30 minutes. The first 12 schools that tried it never went back to spreadsheets.
Today, Cakale EDU serves hundreds of schools across Nigeria and beyond - and the free plan means no school ever has to choose between paying salaries and paying for software.
The idea
The founder, frustrated after visiting a Lagos school drowning in handwritten registers and WhatsApp groups, decides to build something better.
First school
Cakale EDU launches with a single pilot school in Lagos. Within one term, the principal calls it the best decision the school ever made.
Six schools
Word spreads. Six schools across Lagos and Abuja come on board. Each one stops using spreadsheets within a week.
Free plan launched
The core platform becomes permanently free so that no school is left behind due to budget constraints.
Full platform
Assessments, results, payroll, library, parent portal and Paystack payments all go live. Cakale EDU becomes the one platform schools need.
